The installation WELLENGANG [Wave Walk] lends color and identity to the 30-meter-long glass corridor between the changing area and the new thermal baths.
The atmospheric color gradient along the outer glass façade and the wall surfaces above and below the inner glass façade references the emission and absorption spectrum of Cesium. The specific spectral lines, translated into glass strips and glass mosaic, range from red to violet (740 – 380 nm).
The element Cesium was discovered in 1860 by German scientists Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff and identified using their newly developed spectral analysis technique at the thermal spring Maxquelle in Dürkheim.
WELLENGANG picks up on the historical reference and features the bright passageway.

With the extension of the Salinarium in Bad Dürkheim, 4a Architekten transformed an aging leisure pool into a contemporary thermal spa and sauna landscape, realized while operations continued. The project redefines the complex architecturally and urbanistically, integrating the new volume sensitively into the spa park setting and the existing indoor and outdoor pools.
