The top angle of a triangle that meets these conditions marks the centre of a circle equal in area.

"… the arms and the legs of the figure are drawn into different positions in order to visualize Vitruvius' statement that the human body is capable of being inscribed both in a circle and a square. But Vitruvius – and Leonardo – lay stress on the fact merely because it tends to show the harmony between the structure of the human body and the 'most perfect' geometrical shape, which implies also a correspondence of the human body with the universe."
