at the thermal spa Salinarium in Bad Dürkheim

featuring lectures by:

  • Britta Hallmann-Preuß, Director of the Bad Dürkheim City Museum,
    on the spa industry’s boom in the 19th century
  • Wolfgang Petrich, physicist at the Kirchhoff Institute,
    on spectral analysis and the discovery of cesium
  • Ricarda Mieth, visual artist,
    on the design and implementation of the Wellengang and the Ceasiumuhr
  • Steffen Egle, Director of the mpk, Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern,
    on art in architecture

 

Special lighting conditions for the site walk: Only in late April and mid-August — when the 30-meter-long color gradient made of mosaic glass tiles is illuminated by the sun — the antique glass strips, which depict the emission line spectrum of cesium, cast colored light onto the corresponding lines in the opposing absorption spectrum for a brief moment around 4:25 pm.
