Rica Reich's Autotopografische Aufzeichnungen
The map as an outline for projections: plans and treasures,
landscapes and bodies, the earthly, the alien, the whole, extracts, details,
an overall view, detached and close.
"If you open your legs so much as to decrease your height 1/14 and spread and raise your arms till your middle fingers touch the level of the top of your head, you must know that the centre of the outspread limbs will be in the navel and the space between the legs will be an equilateral triangle."
Leonardo da Vinci, Vitruvs'scheme of proportions, about 1492
The top angle of a triangle that meets these conditions marks the centre of a circle equal in area.
"… the arms and the legs of the figure are drawn into different positions in order to visualize Vitruvius' statement that the human body is capable of being inscribed both in a circle and a square. But Vitruvius – and Leonardo – lay stress on the fact merely because it tends to show the harmony between the structure of the human body and the 'most perfect' geometrical shape, which implies also a correspondence of the human body with the universe."
E. Panofsky, London 1940
